 September 30, 2023 Part II

Also news: the folks from Thicc Radio reached out to me to see if I'd like to be interviewed on their podcast.  I said yes and we're going to record the episode this coming week.  No idea when it will air.

If you've never heard of them, I strongly suggest checking out their podcast.  They seem to have a good grasp as to what's what in the gaining community and they're easy to listen to.

September 30, 2023.

Yup.  It's been a long, long time.  Mea culpa.

I'm pretty much the same weight and size as I was three years ago.  Clearly I'm a poster child for doing everything right and still not getting results and it definitely lends credence to the idea that our bodies have a size they like to be at and trying to get fatter or skinnier is met with resistance.  Honestly, I've been eating a crazy amount of food over the past few years and the needle on the scale hardly budges.  I know of folks who are on extreme diets trying to lose weight...different side of the same coin.

Anyway this isn't a sob story post embracing failure or giving up.

I'm back to actively gaining again and this time I've reached out for and looped in a number of folks whom I hope will keep me on track when my commitment fizzles.

On the advice of a friend, I've also added a smoothie every day just before bed: coconut cream, almond butter, and chocolate almond milk, to the tune of about 1300 calories a shot.  It sounds disgusting but because of the sweetness and strong cocoa flavour of the almond milk, it's palatable and my system's tolerating it far better than anything I've ever tried that included dairy products.   Also news: over the past couple of years I discovered that not only can I not eat anything with gluten in it, but also that I feel one hell of a lot better physically and mentally when I don't eat anything with dairy in it either.  No explanation as to why.  I just know what I feel, and what I feel is so much better than I ever did when I was eating dairy and gluten.

As you can imagine, this vastly cuts down on my ability to overindulge (fast food is out of the question) and I've got a fairly limited diet of one solid meal with meat, veggies, etc., lunch and lots of snacks at work, a big serving of rice, and one of these shakes.  I'm aiming for about 4300 calories per day and although I've only been on this regimen for a few weeks, I'm already seeing results.

Here's to hoping that I'm finally on the right path.

It's been a month and I'm happy to say the gains have been consistent.  I'm now at 211 pounds and definitely feeling the difference.  I've also come out to virtually all of my friends about what I'm doing and every single person has said: I have no idea why you'd want to do this but because it makes you happy, I'm supportive!   Clearly I've finally got amazing people in my life now and for this I am profoundly grateful.

Here are the promised progress pictures:

 Happy New Year everyone!

No progress pictures yet because I've decided to do them at 10 pound intervals, wearing the same clothing and using the same camera spacing and angles so that it will be easy to see where I've gained the weight as I get progressively heavier.

I'm up to 204 today and feeling quite round and firm tonight, though some of this is undoubtedly from the giant serving of poutine I just had.

And as always, comments are welcome.  I do have moderation turned on because I get a fair amount of spam, including this gem that clearly does not at all "get" me...

Awaiting moderation

Okay so here's some baseline photos from today.   I currently weigh 200 pounds.

I cut down and re-sewed this t-shirt to make it as form fitting as possible.  I chose a  grey t-shirt because it's a neutral colour with no pattern and the way the shadows fall on it accentuates my body's shape and hopefully will give good contrast later when I'm a lot bigger than I am right now.   I admit it feels pretty darn nice wearing this shirt right now.  It's not super tight fitting (yet, anyway) but every time I move I am reminded that I'm already pretty chunky.

I intend to take progress shots as I grow and upload them here so that people can follow my journey.  And also, while I like the visual simplicity of the grey cloth, I'll also include a shirtless picture once in awhile in order to prove I'm not padding or faking my weight gain.

I have no idea how long it's going to take for me to reach my ideal size because I'm not exactly sure what that is right now.  A lot of it will depend on how well my body handles the extra weight but I think that 300 pounds is a reasonable expectation.   I realize at that size that I won't be running any marathons but at the same time I believe that if I keep my cardio up and continue with weight bearing exercise, I should be just fine.

That being said I'm going to take things in small steps so I don't get overwhelmed.  My first goal is to reach 220 pounds, which is my all-time heaviest weight which I achieved in 2018 when I was off work for a few months and wasn't exercising as much as perhaps I should have been.  I wasn't particularly healthy at that point and to me it kind of shows when I look at how I was carrying the weight.

My current gain will be happening while I am working at a physically intense job that involves a lot of heavy lifting and burns a ton of calories.  To compensate for this, I've adopted a sumo diet of a couple nutritionally balanced meals per day combined with as much rice as I can handle.  And also some gluten free beer but not too much of it and only because for some reason this year everyone decided to give me beer for Christmas.

December 26, 2020

So the extract worked...for about two weeks I definitely felt hungrier.  I might even have gained a few pounds but it wasn't really worth writing home about.  Then it stopped having any noticeable effect so I stopped taking it.

So much for the build up.  Sorry for the letdown.

I've decided to get back to this the old fashioned way: food, food, and more food.

This should all be easier now because a lot of the financial problems that were plaguing me have been settled.  I finally have enough money to pay my bills AND be able to buy all the food I like.   I think part of my problem is the boredom of just eating the same six things day in and day out so I'm going to try to get more creative with my meal planning.  And, of course, nutritionally balanced meals but with way more carbs than any one person should reasonably be expected to eat in a single sitting.  It works for sumo wrestlers.  It should also work for me.

I'm making it clear to anyone who will listen that my New Year's resolution this year is to get fat(ter than I already am, which, at 5'6" tall and 200 pounds probably falls more into the definition of "chubby")

I normalizing this intention for the folks around me so they know what to expect and not be surprised when...and yes I'm salivating at the thought of this...I start getting noticeably bigger.  I want them to know that this is something I'm doing TO myself because this has always been something I've wanted FOR myself.

Starting with what should be an epic early morning trip to the grocery store tomorrow, I'm heading into 2021 and leaving my current weight of 200 pounds in the dust...
