Also news: the folks from Thicc Radio reached out to me to see if I'd like to be interviewed on their podcast. I said yes and we're going to record the episode this coming week. No idea when it will air.
If you've never heard of them, I strongly suggest checking out their podcast. They seem to have a good grasp as to what's what in the gaining community and they're easy to listen to.

September 30, 2023.
Yup. It's been a long, long time. Mea culpa.
I'm pretty much the same weight and size as I was three years ago. Clearly I'm a poster child for doing everything right and still not getting results and it definitely lends credence to the idea that our bodies have a size they like to be at and trying to get fatter or skinnier is met with resistance. Honestly, I've been eating a crazy amount of food over the past few years and the needle on the scale hardly budges. I know of folks who are on extreme diets trying to lose weight...different side of the same coin.
Anyway this isn't a sob story post embracing failure or giving up.
I'm back to actively gaining again and this time I've reached out for and looped in a number of folks whom I hope will keep me on track when my commitment fizzles.
On the advice of a friend, I've also added a smoothie every day just before bed: coconut cream, almond butter, and chocolate almond milk, to the tune of about 1300 calories a shot. It sounds disgusting but because of the sweetness and strong cocoa flavour of the almond milk, it's palatable and my system's tolerating it far better than anything I've ever tried that included dairy products. Also news: over the past couple of years I discovered that not only can I not eat anything with gluten in it, but also that I feel one hell of a lot better physically and mentally when I don't eat anything with dairy in it either. No explanation as to why. I just know what I feel, and what I feel is so much better than I ever did when I was eating dairy and gluten.
As you can imagine, this vastly cuts down on my ability to overindulge (fast food is out of the question) and I've got a fairly limited diet of one solid meal with meat, veggies, etc., lunch and lots of snacks at work, a big serving of rice, and one of these shakes. I'm aiming for about 4300 calories per day and although I've only been on this regimen for a few weeks, I'm already seeing results.
Here's to hoping that I'm finally on the right path.

It's been a month and I'm happy to say the gains have been consistent. I'm now at 211 pounds and definitely feeling the difference. I've also come out to virtually all of my friends about what I'm doing and every single person has said: I have no idea why you'd want to do this but because it makes you happy, I'm supportive! Clearly I've finally got amazing people in my life now and for this I am profoundly grateful.
Here are the promised progress pictures:

Happy New Year everyone!
No progress pictures yet because I've decided to do them at 10 pound intervals, wearing the same clothing and using the same camera spacing and angles so that it will be easy to see where I've gained the weight as I get progressively heavier.
I'm up to 204 today and feeling quite round and firm tonight, though some of this is undoubtedly from the giant serving of poutine I just had.

And as always, comments are welcome. I do have moderation turned on because I get a fair amount of spam, including this gem that clearly does not at all "get" me...

I cut down and re-sewed this t-shirt to make it as form fitting as possible. I chose a grey t-shirt because it's a neutral colour with no pattern and the way the shadows fall on it accentuates my body's shape and hopefully will give good contrast later when I'm a lot bigger than I am right now. I admit it feels pretty darn nice wearing this shirt right now. It's not super tight fitting (yet, anyway) but every time I move I am reminded that I'm already pretty chunky.
I intend to take progress shots as I grow and upload them here so that people can follow my journey. And also, while I like the visual simplicity of the grey cloth, I'll also include a shirtless picture once in awhile in order to prove I'm not padding or faking my weight gain.
I have no idea how long it's going to take for me to reach my ideal size because I'm not exactly sure what that is right now. A lot of it will depend on how well my body handles the extra weight but I think that 300 pounds is a reasonable expectation. I realize at that size that I won't be running any marathons but at the same time I believe that if I keep my cardio up and continue with weight bearing exercise, I should be just fine.
That being said I'm going to take things in small steps so I don't get overwhelmed. My first goal is to reach 220 pounds, which is my all-time heaviest weight which I achieved in 2018 when I was off work for a few months and wasn't exercising as much as perhaps I should have been. I wasn't particularly healthy at that point and to me it kind of shows when I look at how I was carrying the weight.
My current gain will be happening while I am working at a physically intense job that involves a lot of heavy lifting and burns a ton of calories. To compensate for this, I've adopted a sumo diet of a couple nutritionally balanced meals per day combined with as much rice as I can handle. And also some gluten free beer but not too much of it and only because for some reason this year everyone decided to give me beer for Christmas.

So the extract worked...for about two weeks I definitely felt hungrier. I might even have gained a few pounds but it wasn't really worth writing home about. Then it stopped having any noticeable effect so I stopped taking it.
So much for the build up. Sorry for the letdown.
I've decided to get back to this the old fashioned way: food, food, and more food.
This should all be easier now because a lot of the financial problems that were plaguing me have been settled. I finally have enough money to pay my bills AND be able to buy all the food I like. I think part of my problem is the boredom of just eating the same six things day in and day out so I'm going to try to get more creative with my meal planning. And, of course, nutritionally balanced meals but with way more carbs than any one person should reasonably be expected to eat in a single sitting. It works for sumo wrestlers. It should also work for me.
I'm making it clear to anyone who will listen that my New Year's resolution this year is to get fat(ter than I already am, which, at 5'6" tall and 200 pounds probably falls more into the definition of "chubby")
I normalizing this intention for the folks around me so they know what to expect and not be surprised when...and yes I'm salivating at the thought of this...I start getting noticeably bigger. I want them to know that this is something I'm doing TO myself because this has always been something I've wanted FOR myself.
Starting with what should be an epic early morning trip to the grocery store tomorrow, I'm heading into 2021 and leaving my current weight of 200 pounds in the dust...

Although I can't say I've got insatiable appetite at this point, I am eating a lot more than usual and never really feeling full. Also feeling a little bit shaky, like from low blood sugar, even after I've eaten and I hope this is because my body directing more calories now into gaining weight. The solution here, I guess, is to just keep eating as much as I can, as often as I can in order to get as fat as possible.
And although my overall weight on the scale hasn't changed much, I'm getting bigger, especially my belly which is already starting to feel amazingly heavy and round again. Feeling the "gainer itch" as the skin is stretching, especially on my love handles. It seems I'm gaining the weight higher this time, above the navel, as well as more on my love handles and the skin already feels tight in places even though I'm overall not that much bigger yet. Not sure why the difference, other than the fact that maybe it's because I'm working a heavy manual labour job and the muscle underneath is influencing how the weight is coming on. In truth, I'm hoping for a nice round hard ball belly and all signs are pointing to this being where I'm headed.
I'm not even close to my all-time biggest...yet...but I'm really enjoying how fast I'm fattening up again.

April 25, 2020
After getting up to a 218 pounds (my all-time heaviest) I backslid down to just 189 pounds last fall after a particularly strenuous two week trip into the wilderness, though to be fair, I was only about 200 when I started the trip. .
Although over the past six months or so I've worked my way back up to 200 pounds again I find I'm having a hard time making any real gains.
I'm trying a new experiment right now. There's a particularly malevolent shrub that grows in temperate rainforest areas in Canada that is traditionally used as a weight loss remedy by Indigenous people. I managed to get about a quarter pound of it, dried, and have made a tincture of it that I've been taking before each meal for the last ten days or so.
And you're probably asking yourself...what...why would he use something that promotes weight *loss*...?
Well, here's the kicker: use it for up to two weeks and yes, you do lose weight. I am in fact down about four pounds since I started.
The punchline for anyone who's legitimately trying to lose weight is that it's said if you *keep* taking it for more than two weeks, you gain back everything you lost, and then some. One account says that caution should be used because prolonged use causes "excessive" weight gain. I'm not sure what the author thinks is "excessive" but I guess I'm going to find out because I intend to keep taking this stuff for as long as my supply holds out, which should easily be two or three times longer than the recommended time one *should* take it...unless of course one's goal is to get as fat as possible.
I have reason to believe this will work - at 10 days into this experiment I only feel full now after eating about 1.5 times the food I usually eat at any given meal, and I only stay full for about an hour or so before I start feeling hungry again. And the hunger is getting more intense. If the anecdotal evidence can be believed, in just a few days from now I will feel insatiable hunger regardless of when or how much I've just eaten. This can only mean good things for someone whose fondest wish is to stretch his stomach out to epic proportions.
My belief is that once the biochemical "switch" in me that causes weight gain and insatiable appetite is finally, firmly clicked into the ON position, I'll fatten up in a hurry, and hopefully far beyond what I've been able manage so far.
Wish me luck, people. And I'll keep you posted.

19 April 2018
The good news is, despite the drop in the numbers on the scale, my belly's bigger than ever. This makes me happy.
I was out walking today near the river and went down a long flight of stairs from the top of the bluff to the river's edge. Going back up was a real chore - I was reminded of just how out of shape I've let myself get. I had to stop a couple of times to catch my breath on the way back up which is scary because I'm getting fat...but I'm not *that* fat yet.
By the time I got to the top I realized I've been unconsciously sucking in my gut and this is preventing me from breathing properly. Once I focused on relaxing my abdominal muscles and taking in deep breaths, it was amazing how much further my stomach stuck out. The skin on my stomach and love handles stretched out tight and itched like crazy. It's hard to tell with all the hair I have growing there but it appears as though I've gained some stretch marks today. It certainly feels like I have. I knew it was just a matter of time.
I'm okay with it because I know stretch marks are the price to be paid for getting bigger.

6 April 2018
I'm going to the Edmonton Grommoff "food crawl" tomorrow and decided to dress a little bit better than usual: black jeans and a nice dress shirt. It's kind of crazy just how much bigger I look when I'm wearing clothes that actually fit instead of my usual baggy t-shirts and track pants.
Looking in the mirror, I can't help but to think how awesome it is that my shoulders, arms, chest and belly are getting bigger by the moment because every day I consume roughly double the amount of calories recommended for someone my height and build.
One of the things I'm working on is to increase how much food I can reasonably handle without making myself sick. I'd love to be able to eat triple my basic caloric requirement every day because doing so would put the weight on faster and more consistently. Admittedly I am not the most effective gainer, but seeing the progress I've made so far is really motivating me to step things up now.
I realize it's asking a lot of the Universe/Fate/whatever you want to call it, but I sure hope I'm able to connect with someone tomorrow who sees my potential and who will want to help me get a LOT bigger than I've been able to on my own.

And I can tell I'm past my all-time high because my stomach has gone from feeling soft and squishy to being very, very solid.
There is also a vague itchiness a few inches to either side of my navel that tells me the skin is stretching again and I'm not surprised by this. I can tell just by the way my shirts are fitting differently now that my belly has gotten bigger and rounder.
It's odd because even though I've the heaviest I've ever been, in some ways I feel less fat right now because I'm jiggling less. I suspect that this is just a blip based on my relative weight and size and that after I've gained more weight, my body mechanics will be sufficiently changed that I'll be aware of how fat I've gotten every time I move.
Is it weird that I'm looking forward to this?
I'm starting up again with the gainer shakes again because I've decided to push to 235 and would like to get there over the next few weeks. Shouldn't be too hard - I'm less than 20 pounds away from that now.

While I realize the current standard of "beauty" or "handsomeness" is defined by the mainstream as being thin, toned, with minimal body fat, I know that this is not the right way for me to be.

It's been really easy to gain lately because I was off work. I've started back effective last week and there is a ton of exercise involved. I'm going to have to be diligent and creative about keeping the weight I have, as well as finding ways to continue to get bigger.
I'll keep you posted...

7 October 2017
Drove out to some friends' house for Thanksgiving dinner. Ended up missing it by about an hour due to a miscommunication about the time. It was still good - all the food was out and there was a ton of leftovers...which of course I liberally helped myself to.
I had a bit of a crisis beforehand because I've gained so much weight that none of my pants fit me anymore. I was ashamed to have to show up wearing track pants to a holiday dinner but that being said, when I got there it was an utter chaos of their extended family, kids running around etc.
Many folks were already quite a few cups into their adult beverages and my host was higher than a kite.
I guess my point is: ain't nobody was looking at, or caring about what I was wearing.
Looks like I'm going pants shopping on Tuesday.

1 October 2017
Looking at my record the past week or so, I'm currently gaining a half a pound per day. This might not seem much but a consistent gain rate like this, if I am able to keep it up, will get me to where I need to be weight-wise, and likely sooner than expected.
I'm SO happy right now.

29 September 2017
It's a somewhat nightmarish concoction of cereal cream (18%, just milk and cream with no stabilizers), sweetened condensed milk (a ton of sugar with milk), and pasteurized liquid whole egg.
I don't recommend this for the faint of heart and in truth I have no idea what this much fat and sugar are doing to my circulatory system etc. The one saving grace is that this is only a temporary dietary change - I won't be eating like this forever, as well as the fact that I'm backing it up with a regular amount of nutritious meals and exercise...exercise that I plan to increase once I'm happy with my size and can figure out the balance between eating enough to staying that fat and exercising enough to stay healthy.
These shakes pack a real whallop when it comes to getting extra calories and judging by how I'm feeling after a couple of weeks of drinking them, I think they're the answer I've been looking for
Yesterday I was able to augment my total daily intake by 3500 calories - this on top of all of my regular eating, snacks, etc. I estimate I consumed about 5500 calories total in a single day. For me this is a huge improvement as I usually end up making myself super sick to my stomach and then stop the gain for long enough that I end up dropping a ton of weight and end up near a "normal" BMI again.
If I can continue supplementing enough calories with these shakes that I can cover my basic caloric needs for the day, literally every extra single thing I eat during that day will become fat.
Ideally, if I am able to get to the point that I am consistently consuming 6500 calories a day (and yesterday I was within one serving of shake of doing this), I will gain a pound every single day. While I know this is extreme, I've seen others who were successfully able to gain over 100 pounds in a short period of time this way. I know this will be hard on my body - I'm expecting it and preparing for it as best I can. I'm ready to be as big as I reasonably can get and I'm prepared to do what it takes to achieve this.
Added bonus: every day I find I am able to drink a bit more of this shake without feeling too logy to function - it feels almost as though I'm in training as my body gets used to dealing with the onslaught of extra calories.
And it's showing...yesterday a friend jokingly asked me if I was pregnant, because yes, my stomach is stretching out the front of my shirt in a way that's impossible to hide now (not that I'd want to); it's clear to anyone who looks at me that I'm getting fat.

27 September 2017
Pushing past my all time high is going to bring some interesting changes, not the least of which - I'm sure - will be some epic stretch marks.
Totally worth it if it means I'm on track for those big gains that will get me where I need to be.
Gaining hard at time when I'm not expending a lot of energy working means I'm getting fat - fast - in all the right places.
Weighed myself after breakfast and am officially 206 pounds. For now. By this time next week, at the rate I'm gaining, I expect to be somewhere just shy of 210.
